Following a global strategic review, BlueFloat Energy has decided to cease the development of offshore wind projects in New Zealand, specifically affecting sites off the coast of Taranaki and Waikato.
The company maintains that offshore wind presents a strategic opportunity for New Zealand regarding decarbonization and economic growth. However, it cited key uncertainties regarding the market's development in the country, particularly concerning the route to market and seabed allocation.
In a statement, BlueFloat Energy encouraged the New Zealand government to continue its efforts to establish an enabling regulatory framework for offshore wind and support the industry in addressing these uncertainties.
The company expressed gratitude to the many stakeholders who supported its initiatives over the past three years. Moving forward, BlueFloat Energy will focus its attention on the most advanced projects in its portfolio.
