European Energy has been awarded a grant exceeding €50 million by the European Commission for a power-to-X green methanol project in Denmark.
The funding, provided through the EU Innovation Fund, will support the construction of the facility, with construction expected to begin in 2026 and operations set to commence by 2028 or 2029.
Building on the expertise gained from its first green methanol facility in Kassø, Denmark, which has an annual production capacity of 32,000 tonnes, European Energy's new project aims to produce over 100,000 tonnes of green methanol annually. The final grant approval is pending negotiations, with formalization expected by early 2025.
The project is a significant step in European Energy's efforts to scale up green methanol production, improving efficiency and reducing costs to support the green transition.
