GE Vernova is set to remove additional blades from the Vineyard Wind offshore wind farm and reinforce others as part of its ongoing safety measures.
This follows approval granted on 22 October 2024 to resume blade installation under stringent safety and operational conditions. The decision comes after a blade failure at the Massachusetts-based project in July.
In response, GE Vernova has conducted thorough quality checks, re-examining over 8,300 ultrasound images per blade and deploying crawler drones for physical inspections. The move to remove and strengthen blades is being made as a precautionary step.
Since mid-August, eight new towers and nacelles have been installed at the site, with operations and power production set to resume once further progress is made and all necessary approvals are obtained.
