New York's fifth competitive offshore wind solicitation has garnered 21 full bids by the October 18 deadline, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced. Attentive Energy, a joint venture between TotalEnergies, Corio Generation, and Rise Light & Power, withdrew its four proposals from the auction, stating plans to assess future opportunities but reaffirming its commitment to offshore wind development.
Among the major participants, the joint venture between RWE and National Grid Ventures, called Community Offshore Wind, submitted a proposal for a 2.8 GW project to be developed in two phases, with completion expected by 2032. The project is projected to create nearly 700 jobs and drive $3 billion in economic activity.
Danish energy company Orsted, which operates New York's South Fork Wind, submitted its Long Island Wind project proposal, with a capacity of up to 1,485 MW. The project is slated to power up to one million homes by 2033 and generate substantial local investment and job creation.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners' Vineyard Offshore also entered the bidding with its 1,350 MW Excelsior Wind project. Both Excelsior Wind and Community Offshore Wind were part of NYSERDA's third solicitation but did not progress to contract signing.
