Energy supplier Vattenfall has scrapped its plans to build a biomass plant in Diemen, Netherlands, after years of development
Instead, the Swedish government-owned company will explore alternative energy solutions, including geothermal energy and residual warmth.
This shift is part of a new cooperation agreement with several municipalities and the provinces of Noord-Holland and Flevoland.
The proposed 120 MW biomass facility, which would have been fueled by wood pellets, had progressed with agreements reached in June 2019 and environmental permits secured by September of that year.
However, Vattenfall has now pivoted towards more sustainable options to meet energy demands.
