Seville-based energy and water utility Cox has been awarded a contract by the UK's Lightsource bp to construct five solar farms with a total capacity of 248 MWp in southern Spain.
Cox's energy division will handle engineering and procurement, as well as operational and maintenance services for a two-year period following the construction, as stated by the utility on Wednesday.
The project encompasses the development of the Gerena 1, 2, and 3, as well as the Guillena 1 and 2 solar farms, along with the necessary electricity transmission infrastructure.
The Gerena solar farms will be connected to a voltage of 220 kV, while the Guillena farms will utilize 400-kV connections. These facilities will be situated in the towns of Guillena, Burguillos, and Alcalá del Río within the Seville province.
Cox anticipates that the solar farms will become operational in 2026.
