Solar-focused independent power producer (IPP) BNZ has announced the signing of a 12-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Ardagh Metal Packaging-Europe (AMP Europe) in Portugal. The agreement guarantees the supply of 146 GWh of clean energy per year.
BNZ stated that it will commence power supply to AMP-Europe from 2026, providing a certificate confirming that the energy supplied is 100% green. This contract will enable AMP-Europe to cover approximately 50% of its energy needs on the continent.
AMP-Europe, part of the Luxembourg-based Ardagh Group, is a supplier of recyclable and sustainable metal beverage cans and lids, and it aims to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2030.
In addition to this agreement, BNZ recently inaugurated a 74-MW solar park in Spain's Cadiz province in June. Earlier this week, the company announced a EUR 680 million (USD 741.4 million) multinational Total IPP Financing (TIPPF) loan for projects in Spain, Italy, and Portugal.
Portugal is highlighted as a priority market for BNZ due to its high potential for renewable energy production, particularly in the solar photovoltaic (PV) sector.
