Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy held discussions with wind industry representatives to address measures ensuring fair competition and bolstering the country's energy security. The talks also focused on strengthening supply chain resilience to support the domestic wind sector.
Dennis Rendschmidt, managing director of VDMA Power Systems, stressed the importance of reliable energy infrastructure, stating, “To ensure energy supply as a fundamental component of national security, it must be ensured that every single installation in the power grid is fully reliable.” He argued that relying solely on component certification is insufficient for minimizing risks, and called for stricter regulations.
Rendschmidt also emphasized the need for a level playing field within Germany and Europe's wind industry, highlighting concerns over unfair market interventions. “For the wind industry in Germany and Europe, it is particularly crucial that a competitive level playing field is maintained and that unfair market interventions can be compensated for,” he said, calling for an EU industrial strategy that considers local conditions and demand stability.
He added that Europe's wind turbine manufacturers and suppliers are capable of meeting the increasing demand, provided that market conditions remain stable. “A reliable market is a prerequisite for investments in sustainable industrial growth,” Rendschmidt concluded.
