UK-based lightweight solar power film manufacturer Power Roll has successfully raised GBP 4.3 million (USD 5.61 million/EUR 5.14 million) to facilitate the establishment of a commercial-scale manufacturing facility with an initial production capacity of 100 MW.
This funding round attracted investments from both existing and new investors, including Maven Equity Finance and the British Business Bank's Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II (NPIF II), which contributed GBP 1.5 million alone.
Founded in 2012, Power Roll specializes in lightweight and flexible solar film materials that do not rely on rare earth elements, suitable for commercial and industrial buildings. The technology leverages thousands of microgrooves combined with perovskite materials. In 2022, the company commissioned its pilot manufacturing plant in County Durham and has set an ambitious goal of achieving a production capacity of 1 GW in the future.
With the new funding, Power Roll aims to enhance technical development at its operational Durham plant while pursuing additional advanced-stage fundraising to support its transition to a commercial-scale manufacturing facility.
