The Danish Energy Agency has approved a development plan for two new offshore wind farms, Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II, each with a capacity of at least 1 GW. This decision follows an environmental assessment and public consultations.
The sites are part of a 6-GW offshore wind tender launched in April, with bids due by April 1, 2025. The plan outlines the framework for wind turbines, cables, and power transforming facilities, with connections to Denmark's grid at the Trige high-voltage station and a new facility in southeastern Zealand.
Winners of the tender will be required to conduct specific environmental impact assessments for the wind farms, which are expected to be fully operational by 2030. Denmark's existing offshore wind capacity is 2.7 GW, with the Thor Offshore Wind Farm, under construction, set to add 1 GW by 2027.
In parallel, Energinet, Denmark's transmission system operator, is carrying out environmental assessments for the onshore infrastructure required for the Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II projects.
