Polish power utility Polenergia SA has been awarded a 15-year contract to supply green hydrogen to the municipal transport company (MPK) of Rzeszow, located in southeastern Poland.
The hydrogen will be used to fuel 20 hydrogen-powered buses that are set to operate in the city, with Polenergia's bid receiving the maximum score in the price criterion.
The contract coincides with progress on Polenergia's H2HUB Nowa Sarzyna project, which will produce green hydrogen specifically for MPK Rzeszow.
The project recently obtained a building permit and is nearing completion of its key component, a 5 MW electrolyser. The electrolyser, supplied by Norwegian company Hystar AS, will produce up to 90 kilograms of green hydrogen per hour.
As part of the project, two hydrogen refuelling stations will be constructed—one in Rzeszow and another in Nowa Sarzyna, approximately 50 kilometers away.
Polenergia is also advancing another hydrogen project, H2Silesia, in Upper Silesia. This initiative involves the construction of a green hydrogen plant with a capacity of 105 MW. The project has received approval from the European Commission, making it eligible for EUR 142.77 million in funding.
