Australian solar technology company Solar has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese solar manufacturer Co Ltd to form a joint venture (JV) focused on establishing solar manufacturing capabilities in Australia.

The venture, which will be majority Australian-owned, aims to produce Australian-made solar panels for homes and businesses.

The partnership will combine Trina Solar's manufacturing expertise and n-type technology with SunDrive's copper metallisation technology, creating over 300 jobs and strengthening the local supply chain.

SunDrive plans to apply for funding from the 's (ARENA) Solar Sunshot programme to support the project, with production capacity and timelines dependent on the success of the funding application.

SunDrive co-founder David Hu highlighted the strong technology collaboration with Trina Solar, noting their reputation and extensive experience in global solar manufacturing as key factors in the partnership's potential success.
