EXERGY International, a company in clean energy technology and new generation geothermal ORC power plants, has announced a deal with Hez Enerji for the supply of a 24 MWe geothermal binary plant. The plant, named Bilecik HEZ Morali JES-1, will be used for the exploitation of Hez Enerji's geothermal field in Aydin, Turkey. The project is expected to be completed by 2Q24, with startup scheduled before the end of 2024.
Hez Enerji, an energy company with nine geothermal license areas under development in various regions of Turkey, began exploration activities in 2016 with the intention of exploiting the estimated 300 MWe of total geothermal capacity. The company's exploration and development of its production wells is part of its broader goal to further raise the share of renewable energy production in Turkey.
Under the terms of the deal, EXERGY will handle the design, engineering, and supply of the power plant. The binary system will feature two radial outflow turbines (ROT) of 12 MWe each and an air-cooled condensing system. The turbines and generator will be manufactured locally by EXERGY TURKEY, a subsidiary company of EXERGY, in line with the Made in Turkey incentives.
The new HEZ Energy power plant is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions associated with fossil fuel power generation by approximately 70,000 tonnes per year. This will be a significant contribution to Turkey's decarbonisation goals, as the country continues to invest in renewable energy.
