OX2 has acquired its first onshore wind project in Australia, a 1GW scheme located north of Perth in Western Australia. The project, which is in its early stages, will include a 100MW battery energy storage system, set to be developed ahead of the wind farm.
The project involves collaboration with more than 20 landowners, and the original developers will work closely with OX2 to manage the approval process as part of the acquisition.
Rachel Watson, OX2 Australia country manager, said, “This is a great achievement by our team in Australia. It fulfills the promise made when OX2 entered Australia, that the company would expand into onshore wind… Australia is on the road to decarbonization and has great opportunities to leverage its natural resources with excellent conditions for wind and solar power.”
OX2 entered the Australian market in 2023 through the acquisition of solar energy developer ESCO Pacific and has since divested three solar projects while preparing to manage the construction of one. The company's development portfolio in Australia now includes 1GW of solar projects and 230MW of energy storage projects across Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland.
