Orsted has officially completed the commissioning of the 600-MW Eleven Mile Solar Center in Pinal County, Arizona, which includes a 300-MW solar farm and a 300-MW/1,200-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).
This facility can produce enough electricity to power 65,000 homes and store 1,200 MWh of energy per day. It will supply clean energy to local homes, businesses, and Meta's future data center in Mesa, Arizona.
“Solar energy paired with battery energy storage will be critical to the reliable delivery of power as the demand for electricity grows,” said David Hardy, executive vice president and CEO of Orsted Region Americas. “We are thrilled to have completed our first project in Arizona and added a valuable asset to our US portfolio, which will help meet the growing demand of the state and region with reliable, clean energy.”
Arizona Corporate Commissioner Lea Marquez Peterson also commended the project, noting that it “represents a significant investment in southern Arizona and support for our state's growing energy needs.” The Eleven Mile Solar Center is expected to bolster the state's energy reliability while contributing to the diversification of its energy resources.
With the commissioning of this project, Orsted now operates 5.6 GW of onshore renewable energy globally.
