Spanish gas transmission system operator Enagas SA has partnered with Dutch counterpart Gasunie to establish integrated logistics chains aimed at the sustainable management of CO2 and the transportation of decarbonised molecules, including green hydrogen and green ammonia.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was announced on Tuesday and seeks to support broader European decarbonisation goals.
Under the agreement, both companies will conduct joint analyses and feasibility studies to develop the logistics chain connecting Spain and the Netherlands. The proposed projects are contingent on regulatory developments and are expected to include the transport and storage of CO2 from Spain to the Netherlands.
This will also cover biomass-based biogenic CO2, which can be utilized in methanol production and the export of ammonia and other decarbonised molecules via “multimolecule terminals.”
Additionally, the MoU outlines plans to identify potential off-takers in sectors such as fertilizers and maritime mobility. Enagas stated that a specific action plan has been defined for the upcoming months, and regular meetings will be held to facilitate collaboration between the two firms.
