Boviet Solar Technology Co Ltd, a Vietnamese manufacturer of solar products, is making strides in renovating an existing site in North Carolina into a 2-GW photovoltaic (PV) module factory, with production expected to commence in early 2025.
In a project update released on Wednesday, the company reported that construction began in the third quarter, and the renovation of the site is on track for timely commissioning. This development marks the first phase of a $294 million (EUR 268.6 million) project, which will also encompass solar cell production.
The company is repurposing a 500,000-square-foot (46,465 square meters) building in Greenville, Pitt County, where it plans to manufacture both monofacial and bifacial PV modules. These products will cater to residential, commercial, and industrial applications, as well as to developers of utility-scale projects in the U.S.
The second phase of the project includes plans for a new 600,000-square-foot facility dedicated to producing 2 GW of PV cells annually, with construction slated to begin in the last quarter of 2024.
This Greenville facility will mark Boviet Solar's first manufacturing site in the U.S. and the second globally. As of January, the company had a production capacity of 3 GW for PV cells and modules in Vietnam, with a significant portion of its output directed towards the U.S. market.
