Düsseldorf-based Uniper has entered into a nine-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a major international industrial gas producer to supply a total of 575GWh of energy from German hydropower.
The renewable energy sourced through this agreement will be utilized for the production of green hydrogen.
Deliveries are set to commence in 2025, starting with an initial annual volume of 25GWh. This volume is projected to increase to 75GWh annually from 2027 until the contract's conclusion in 2033.
The agreement aims to support decarbonization efforts within the Rhine-Ruhr industrial region.
Carsten Poppinga, Uniper's chief commercial officer, emphasized the significance of the contract, stating, “Climate change is forcing companies to reduce their CO2 emissions. This contract demonstrates Uniper's ability to meet customer needs and confirms its role as a reliable partner in the energy transition. Our flexible energy generation assets support the restructuring of the energy industry while ensuring security of supply. We are delighted that our PPA is helping to accelerate the decarbonisation of a large German industrial region. This is another step on Uniper's path towards becoming a leading provider of green molecules and power products.”
