A Spanish consortium led by Nordex Electrolyzers has unveiled a project focused on the efficient production of green hydrogen to support the decarbonisation of industrial processes at a facility in Navarre, northern Spain.
The initiative, named H2OP, involves collaboration between several key partners, including Spanish food casings and packaging manufacturer Viscofan SA, the private technology centre AIN, and URAPHEX, a company specializing in water regeneration and disinfection equipment.
Nordex Electrolyzers, a joint venture between a Navarre government entity and Nordex SE, will contribute its 500-kW prototype alkaline electrolyser to the project.
Viscofan's facilities in Caseda have been designated as the project site. The prototype electrolyser is capable of producing over 10 kg of hydrogen per hour, which will be utilized to replace natural gas in steam generation at Viscofan's production plant.
The H2OP project, which stands for “Development of advanced technologies and asset management tools for the efficient production of green hydrogen for use in the decarbonisation of industrial processes,” has received a grant of EUR 838,429 (USD 921,637) from the Navarre government. This funding is part of the 2024-2027 strategic research and development project initiative supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
