Portugal’s Solar Farms Generate More Electricity in 2024 Than All of 2023

's farms have generated 3.99 TWh of electricity by September 5, surpassing the total output of 3.6 TWh recorded for all of 2023, according to the operator Redes Energeticas Nacionais (REN).

This achievement marks 2024 as the country's record year for solar power production.

The national grid also set a new peak generation record of 2,640 MW on August 14, breaking the previous daily record of 1,822 MW reached on September 23, 2023.

Between January and September, plants supplied 73% of Portugal's electricity consumption, with solar energy experiencing a 35% increase compared to the same period last year.
