Airloom Energy, a US-based developer of low-cost, utility-scale wind power systems, has raised nearly USD 14 million to advance its pilot project in Wyoming.
The Laramie-based company plans to break ground on the site in summer 2025 to showcase its innovative technology. Unlike traditional horizontal-axis wind turbines (HAWTs), Airloom's system harnesses air flows to propel wings that move perpendicularly along a lightweight, roller-coaster-like track, with a flexible design that adapts to various landscapes.
The company claims the system is more efficient, easier to deploy, and costs just a third of conventional turbines.
The funding includes USD 7.5 million from a seed round led by Lowercarbon Capital, with support from Bill Gates' Breakthrough Energy Ventures, WYVC, and others.
In addition, Airloom Energy secured USD 5 million from Wyoming's Energy Matching Funds and a USD 1.25 million contract from the US Department of Defense.
