German energy provider Gasag and renewables firm E.disnatur Erneuerbare Energien GmbH, a subsidiary of E.dis AG, are set to construct a 28-megawatt wind park in the village of Mallnow, near the Polish border.
The project, valued at EUR 40 million (USD 43.9 million), will feature five wind turbines standing 250 meters tall. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2024.
Once operational, the wind park is expected to generate 68 gigawatt-hours of green electricity per year, which would be sufficient to supply around 17,000 households.
This will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 26,000 tonnes annually. The facility is planned to be connected to the public grid by the summer of 2025.
Matthias Trunk, Gasag's sales director, noted that the company has additional renewable energy projects in development, with a strong emphasis on wind and solar power in Brandenburg. Trunk stated, “We are looking at projects to significantly increase green power production.”
The new wind farm forms part of Germany's broader effort to enhance its renewable energy capacity and transition away from fossil fuels.
