Helexia, a subsidiary of French renewable energy company Voltalia SA, has commissioned 28 rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installations in Romania with a combined capacity of 12.8 MW.
According to Voltalia, the solar plants were installed on rooftops of 16 outlets of Auchan Retail and 12 Leroy Merlin locations.
The solar systems, which feature 27,000 PV panels across more than 63,000 square meters of rooftop space, are expected to generate over 14 GWh of electricity annually.
This output will cover between 20% and 30% of each store's electricity consumption, significantly reducing their reliance on the grid.
In addition to helping Auchan and Leroy Merlin cut energy costs, the solar arrays will save more than 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. Under the agreement, Helexia will retain ownership of the PV systems.
