The Maryland Energy Administration has launched its tenth annual open application period for two grant programs designed to advance the state's offshore wind energy industry. The Maryland Offshore Wind Education & Workforce Program and the Maryland Offshore Wind Supply Chain Investment Program will collectively offer a budget of $5 million for Fiscal Year 2025.
The Offshore Wind Education & Workforce Program will provide $3 million in funding, aimed at developing or enhancing general offshore wind education initiatives that do not require certification. The program will cover up to 75% of total project costs, allowing educational institutions to implement programs that prepare Maryland residents for careers in the renewable energy sector.
Meanwhile, the Maryland Offshore Wind Supply Chain Investment Program has a budget of $2 million for FY25. This program is intended to support capital expenditures for companies entering the offshore wind sector, as well as funding for industry-related events.
Maryland Energy Administration Director Paul G. Pinsky emphasized the significance of these initiatives, stating, “By providing training opportunities for Marylanders to learn the skills needed to get nicely paying jobs in the renewable energy economy and promoting ways to get the materials Maryland needs to build this promising industry here both faster and cheaper, these programs are moving the needle on clean energy development for Maryland.”
He added, “Offshore wind energy development makes a ton of sense for a state dedicated to delivering a clean energy future, and the green energy industry holds immense promise for Marylanders. These programs help both prosper.”
The application period for the Offshore Wind Education & Workforce Program will remain open until November 29, 2024, while applications for the Offshore Wind Supply Chain Investment Program will be accepted until December 15, 2024.
