Ineos Inovyn, a subsidiary of the UK-based chemicals group Ineos, has inaugurated a 60-MW solar farm in Belgium, which is one of the country's largest.
The facility, which will exclusively supply the company's Jemeppe production site, was officially opened last week in collaboration with partners PerPetum Energy and Green4Power.
The solar farm is designed to include an underground power line connection to the Jemeppe plant, enabling Ineos Inovyn to supply its customers with low-carbon PVC and Chlor-Alkali products.
This project aligns with the company's decarbonisation roadmap, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions across all sites by more than 33% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
In light of the competitiveness gap with the US and China, Ineos Inovyn emphasized the need for measures to enhance the competitive edge of the European plastics industry. CEO Geir Tuft stated, “Support schemes that stimulate investments in clean, abundant and competitive energy are critical to a sustainable future for European industry.”
