Swedish energy and infrastructure consultancy AFRY AB has been contracted to serve as the owner's engineer for a significant green hydrogen and ammonia production project in the Northern Territory of Australia.
This project is being developed by Allied Green Ammonia Pty Ltd, which plans to install a 3-GW electrolyser at Nhulunbuy, Gove Peninsula, aimed at producing nearly one million tonnes of green ammonia fuel annually.
To meet the power demands of this complex, Allied Green intends to deploy approximately 4.75 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays combined with battery storage systems.
AFRY's responsibilities will include designing a reliable and self-sustaining renewable power and distribution system to supply electricity to the facility. Specifically, the consultancy will review the basic engineering design of the solar farm, its electrical systems, and the integration of the battery units into the overall system.
The Gove facility is expected to have the capacity to produce 486 tonnes per day of green hydrogen, resulting in an annual output of around 960,000 tonnes of green ammonia on-site.
Recently, Allied Green engaged Affinity Capital Group as a lead manager and strategic financial adviser to assist in raising approximately USD 6.5 billion for the project. Additionally, the construction firm Nacap has been selected to build the hydrogen pipeline, further solidifying the project's progress toward development.
