The second phase of public consultation for the MarramWind project, a 3GW floating wind farm off the coast of Aberdeenshire, will commence shortly. The consultation aims to gather feedback from the community on the proposed offshore wind project, which is being developed by ScottishPower in partnership with Shell.
The consultation period will begin on Monday, October 7, with an online Q&A session scheduled from 6 pm to 7 pm. A virtual exhibition will follow on Wednesday, October 9, running throughout the consultation phase. In-person public sessions will be held in the Peterhead area on October 29 and 30. Additionally, a second online Q&A session is planned for November 7 before the consultation closes on November 19.
MarramWind Project Director Richard Eakin expressed the project's commitment to incorporating public feedback. “Since the first round of consultation closed in early July, we've been reviewing all the feedback received and it's great to be coming back to Aberdeenshire so soon,” he said.
The feedback gathered in earlier consultations has contributed to shaping the project's development, with local input helping to eliminate certain potential locations for onshore infrastructure. Eakin noted that discussions with other developers and educational institutions have also been influenced by stakeholder input.
“This project could make a real difference for the north-east – providing a great green generation boost as well as delivering investment, jobs and supply chain growth,” Eakin added, urging both previous and new participants to engage with the second phase of the consultation.
MarramWind, located 75km off the coast of Aberdeenshire, is part of Scotland's broader strategy to expand renewable energy sources through offshore wind projects.
