Clean energy developer Invenergy LLC, based in Chicago, has partnered with Japan's Honda Motor Co Ltd to sign a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) for the electricity generated by a 63-megawatt (MW) wind farm in Hokkaido prefecture. The agreement, announced on Friday, marks the largest corporate VPPA in the region.
Under the terms of the contract, Honda will purchase electricity from Invenergy's Rusutsu Wind Energy Center. However, details regarding the contract's duration and financial value were not disclosed.
Operational since March 2024, the wind farm features 15 turbines and is designed to generate enough clean electricity to meet the needs of approximately 35,000 local households.
This agreement in Japan follows a similar VPPA that Invenergy signed with a Honda subsidiary in North America for part of its 200-MW Samson Solar Energy Center in the United States.
