Tate & Lyle Plc, a UK-based food and beverage ingredients manufacturer, announced on Monday that it has entered into a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Enel North America for electricity generated by the Ranchland wind farm in Texas.
Under the 12-year agreement, Tate & Lyle will acquire approximately 256,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity and associated renewable energy credits (RECs) annually from the wind farm operated by Enel SpA.
The Ranchland facility has a capacity of 263 megawatts and includes an 87-megawatt energy storage system, and is currently operational in Callahan and Eastland Counties.
Beginning in October, the PPA will fulfill all of Tate & Lyle's electricity requirements for its manufacturing operations in North America, with the exception of its McIntosh, Alabama facility, which has a separate renewable electricity agreement with Alabama Power.
“This agreement represents a major step forward in delivering on our ambitious science-based climate targets, as well as a significant acceleration in the decarbonisation of our operations as we work towards becoming a net zero business,” said Nick Hampton, chief executive of Tate & Lyle.
He added that the agreement will allow the company to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of its ingredients and support customers in achieving their own decarbonisation goals.
