RWE has broadened its “Let's Create Energy – Together for the Energy Transition in Italy” campaign, inviting all Italian citizens to invest in the construction of a 54MW onshore wind farm in San Severo, Foggia.
The initiative allows the public to financially benefit from and contribute to Italy's energy transition and decarbonization goals, according to the company.
The San Severo plant, currently under construction, will provide green energy to 55,000 households and is slated for completion by the end of December 2024. The project, with a total investment of approximately €92 million, aligns with RWE's sustainability objectives.
Paolo Raia, RWE Renewables Italia country chair, highlighted the company's intent to engage citizens as “promoters and protagonists” in the country's decarbonization.
Initially, the campaign prioritized residents of the Puglia region, sharing the economic and environmental benefits with local communities.
Now, between September 30 and December 31, all Italians can invest through the Ener2Crowd platform, with options ranging from €250 to €5,000, offering an 8% gross return per year over a 24-month period. RWE aims to raise between €100,000 and €200,000 to fund the project.
RWE currently operates 15 onshore wind farms in Italy, supplying green electricity to 400,000 households. Once the San Severo and Mondonuovo projects are operational, the company will provide enough power for over 500,000 households.
