Summit Next Gen LLC, a U.S. sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production platform, has acquired a 60-acre site along the Houston Ship Channel to establish an ethanol-to-jet fuel (ETJ) facility.
The property was purchased from Texas Deepwater Partners LLC (TDWP), although financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. The agreement also includes an exclusive option for Summit to acquire an additional 40 acres for future expansion.
As part of a broader collaboration, TDWP will construct, own, and operate a dock to accommodate deepwater vessels and barges, facilitating import and export activities at the SAF plant under a long-term terminal services agreement. Both companies are also exploring additional transportation options to enhance the efficiency of the new facility.
A final investment decision (FID) regarding the SAF plant and the associated dock infrastructure is expected by mid-2025, with project completion anticipated in 2027.
Summit Next Gen was launched by Summit Agricultural Group in 2023, aiming to develop what is claimed to be the world's largest ethanol-to-SAF plant, leveraging Honeywell's ETJ processing technology. The initial production target is set at nearly 250 million gallons (946 million liters) of SAF annually.
TDWP, a joint venture between Pinto Realty and USD Group, primarily owns waterfront property along the north side of the Houston Ship Channel.
This transaction represents the initial phase of TDWP's strategy to evolve into a significant alternative energy industrial hub.
