Naturgy Energy Group SA has officially commissioned a solar photovoltaic plant in Andalusia, Spain, adding 50 megawatts (MW) of capacity to its renewable energy portfolio.
The project, located in Villanueva del Rey, involved an investment of EUR 60 million (USD 66.9 million) and generated over 350 jobs during its construction and operation.
The newly operational solar farm consists of more than 97,000 panels and is expected to produce approximately 111 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually. This facility marks Naturgy's first operational solar plant in the province of Seville.
In addition to the Villanueva del Rey project, Naturgy is advancing nine other solar initiatives in the Seville area, representing an additional 200 MW of capacity, alongside plans for a biomethane plant. With the commissioning of this new solar farm, Naturgy now operates three solar farms and five wind farms in Andalusia, contributing to a total renewable capacity of 305 MW in the region.
The company has a pipeline of 16 projects currently under development and construction, including ten solar and six wind projects, expected to add over 700 MW to the Andalusian grid.
