German energy group RWE AG has signed a letter of support with Portugal's Port Authority of Setubal to transform the port into a logistics hub for floating offshore wind projects.
The agreement aims to enhance industrial growth and improve the port's infrastructure through shared knowledge and expertise.
The partnership will explore the potential of the Port of Setubal, situated south of Lisbon, to serve as a key site for the marshalling, assembly, and deployment of essential components for large-scale floating offshore wind initiatives.
RWE emphasized the importance of enhancing port capacity and supply chains to ensure the successful execution of commercial-scale projects, which will in turn attract investment, stimulate growth, and create skilled jobs.
Alvaro de Miguel, Country Lead Portugal at RWE Offshore Wind, highlighted the company's commitment to exploring opportunities for floating offshore wind development in Portugal.
As the country prepares for its first offshore wind auction, other companies, including Ocean Winds and Martifer Renewables & Energy, are also preparing to participate in the bidding process, spurred by Portugal's favorable wind conditions.
