TotalEnergies and Air France-KLM have formalized a significant agreement for the supply of up to 1.5 million tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) over the next decade. This contract represents one of the largest SAF purchases ever made by Air France-KLM.
In 2022 and 2023, Air France-KLM emerged as the world's largest user of SAF, accounting for 17% and 16% of total global production, respectively. The airline group has set an ambitious target to reduce its CO2 emissions per passenger kilometer by 30% by 2030, compared to 2019 levels.
This goal will be pursued through fleet renewal, operational improvements like eco-piloting, and integrating at least 10% of more sustainable aviation fuel into all flights.
The SAF provided to Air France-KLM will be derived from waste and residues as part of the circular economy and will be produced at TotalEnergies' biorefineries and refineries in France and across Europe through coprocessing methods. This fuel will be utilized for flights departing from France, the Netherlands, and other European nations.
The advancement of SAF is central to TotalEnergies' strategy for transitioning to meet the aviation sector's increasing demand for sustainable fuel options.
