Dutch energy transition platform Return and Spanish renewables company Benbros Energy have established a joint venture aimed at developing over 500 MW of standalone energy storage projects in Spain.
The partnership is set to kick off with ten initial projects totaling 210 MW, with construction of the first project anticipated to commence in 2025.
Return currently operates 70 MW of storage systems and has over 16 GW of projects in development across Northern Europe. The company aims to leverage its extensive experience in energy storage, alongside Benbros' local presence and execution capabilities in the Spanish market.
In addition to this joint venture, Return maintains a footprint in Spain through its affiliates, including Ekhi, which provides self-consumption and distributed energy solutions; CargaTuCoche, which installs electric vehicle chargers; and ErasmoPower2X, a project focused on solar and green hydrogen.
Benbros has also previously collaborated with Renewable Power Capital (RPC) to create a solar-focused joint venture, targeting the development of approximately 3.4 GW of renewable energy projects in Spain.
