Trina Solar has submitted a development application for a significant battery energy storage project, proposing a capacity of up to 660 MW/2,640 MWh in an industrial zone located south of Perth, Western Australia. The application is currently under review by the Shire of Harvey.
The proposed Kemerton Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is set to occupy a 19-hectare site near Harvey, previously cleared for sand mining and conveniently close to an existing 330-kV transmission line.
The facility is designed to house up to 800 battery containers, 200 inverters with medium-voltage transformers, four high-voltage substations, as well as service facilities and storage buildings.
Trina plans to commence construction of the BESS in the third quarter of 2026, with an estimated construction timeline of approximately 24 months.
In addition to this project, Trina is also working on the 500-MW/1,000 MWh Kiewa Valley BESS in Victoria and the 270-MW/540 MWh Augusta BESS in South Australia.
As part of its growth strategy, the company aims to achieve 6.5 GW of installed renewable energy capacity across Australia, a goal articulated by John Zhong, Trina's Australian Country Manager, last year.
