Renewables developer Qair and French retail giant Carrefour have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 52MW solar project to be built in Italy's Latium region by 2026.
This agreement is part of Carrefour's broader decarbonization strategy, with the solar energy generated set to power a portion of Carrefour Italia's operations.
The partnership aligns with Carrefour's sustainability goals, which include reducing emissions by 50% and sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire group by 2040.
Jean Francois Dohogne, Chief Financial Officer at Carrefour Italia, highlighted the impact of the agreement: “This contract will allow Carrefour Italy to count on around 75GWh of renewable energy per year, the equivalent of powering 30 of its hypermarkets.”
Qair Italy's CEO, Emmanuel Maqueron, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting that the partnership underscores Qair's growing presence in Italy and its role in advancing the energy transition.
