Spanish tracker manufacturer Solar Steel, a subsidiary of Gonvarri Industries, has entered into an agreement to supply Spanish engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm Global Energy Services (GES) with 50 MW of its single-axis 1P trackers.
The solar plant will be constructed in the northern region of Navarra, with Solar Steel set to deliver a total of 1,046 trackers to facilitate the installation of over 72,000 photovoltaic (PV) modules. While specific technical or operational details for the project have not been disclosed, this marks the second significant project that Solar Steel has supported within a week. Earlier, the company provided 62 MW of trackers for a Solarig project in Seville, located in southern Spain.
Both projects are comparable in scale. The Solarig project is expected to achieve an annual output of approximately 125,000 MWh, while the GES project aims for an output of around 100,500 MWh. In total, with the recent agreements, Solar Steel will supply close to 6,000 trackers for various solar initiatives across Spain.
GES has an established track record in utility-scale solar development, having worked on nearly 2 GW of projects, including its largest facility, a 281 MW installation in Zaragoza.
This latest deal comes on the heels of Acciona Energía's announcement to construct a 48 MW PV plant at the industrial facilities of food packaging manufacturer Viscofan, also situated in Navarra. Additionally, the Spanish government approved the construction of 25 GW of new solar capacity in July, further underscoring the positive momentum in the country's solar sector.
