NKT has successfully completed repairs to the 600MW Gemini Wind Park, located off the Dutch coast, following a cable failure this summer. The incident involved a disruption in one of the export cables linking the wind farm to the Groningen coast in the Netherlands.
In response to the failure, NKT assembled a specialized repair team to manage the jointing of a replacement cable. The Gemini Wind Park is predominantly owned by Northland Power.
Axel Barnekow Widmark, executive vice president of service and installation at NKT, noted the significance of the repair effort. He stated, “NKT is pleased to have contributed to the swift repair of the Gemini connection, bringing the wind park back to full operational capacity and supplying sustainable energy to households across the Netherlands.” He emphasized the complexities involved in restoring subsea connections and acknowledged the collaboration with the Gemini team throughout the process.
The completion of these repairs is expected to improve the reliability of renewable energy supply in the region. With the wind park back online, it is anticipated that local communities will benefit from continued renewable energy generation, which aligns with the Netherlands' goals for increasing its renewable energy capacity.
