EDF Renewables North America has signed a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) for the Milligan 1 Wind project. The 300-megawatt (MW) facility, located in Nebraska and operational since 2021, will contribute to OPPD's plan to increase power generation capacity and support its growing customer demand.
The agreement is part of OPPD's strategy to add 3,200 MW of new generation by the end of the decade, with 50% of this growth coming from renewable sources. OPPD President and CEO, Javier Fernandez, highlighted the importance of the partnership in ensuring reliability and supporting Nebraska's economic growth, stating, “Having flexibility in our generation fleet is critical to enable economic growth and reliability.”
John Shultzabarger, Senior Director of Power Marketing at EDF Renewables, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with OPPD to meet their ambitious goals, including doubling generation capacity by 2030 and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
