Renexia has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MingYang and Italy's Minister Adolfo Urso to establish a floating wind industrial chain. The agreement includes a €500 million investment to create a new company that will operate a turbine production facility for the Med Wind floating wind farm project in the Mediterranean Sea, near Trapani.
The planned factory will generate up to 1,100 jobs. Renexia also presented the Environmental Impact Study for the Med Wind project, following extensive environmental and economic feasibility studies.
Riccardo Toto, Renexia's General Manager, expressed gratitude to Minister Urso for his support and highlighted the project's role in achieving the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan goals and supporting the Mattei Plan for Africa. Toto emphasized the partnership's potential to integrate domestic companies into the floating offshore wind power industry.
The choice of MingYang was driven by its ability to meet the 2026 installation timeline for the first section of Med Wind, located more than 80 kilometers offshore. The partnership will utilize MingYang's 18.8MW turbines, reducing the total number of units required from 190 to 148, thereby minimizing environmental impact and lowering maintenance costs.
The new company, jointly established by MingYang and Renexia, will identify a suitable location for the production site within 90 days, in collaboration with the government. The initiative will also support the entry of Italian and international investors, aligning with Italy's Made in Italy efforts.
