Orsted Partners with Mission Clean Energy to Develop 1GW of Battery Storage in the US Midwest

has entered into a strategic partnership with -based developer Mission Clean Energy to advance four standalone battery systems, collectively totaling 1GW, across the American Midwest. This collaboration enhances Orsted's existing development efforts, expanding its portfolio of renewable energy technologies and services.

The Danish energy company plans to use its financial resources to secure and maintain interconnection queue positions for the four storage projects, which are owned by Mission Clean Energy. Mission will continue to lead the development of these projects, with the partners having submitted interconnection applications to the Mid-Continent Independent System Operator (MISO) Central and North.

Orsted's Chief Commercial Officer, James Giamarino, emphasized the importance of this partnership in accelerating the expansion of storage projects across the Midwest. He highlighted that investing in and building out storage solutions is crucial for ensuring a resilient and reliable energy grid, aligning with Orsted's strategic focus on increasing storage alongside wind and solar energy.
