UK-based 17 Energy and SC Power have launched the Viento Azul Biobío (VAB) consortium to advance Chile's offshore wind industry. The announcement, made at a launch event in Concepción, was attended by government officials, industry leaders, and community representatives.
The VAB consortium aims to support the large-scale decarbonisation of Chile's electricity network by developing offshore wind projects that provide significant benefits to the country. The initiative emphasizes collaboration with local communities, industry, and government to achieve these goals.
Daniel Perdomo, director of 17 Energy, stated: “This is a pivotal moment for Chile's energy future. The Viento Azul Biobío Consortium is committed to building a strong, sustainable offshore wind industry that creates jobs, drives economic growth, and protects our environment.”
Rodrigo Corvalán of SC Power added: “We believe that offshore wind can be a catalyst for transformation in Chile. By working collaboratively with stakeholders and communities, we can develop projects that not only generate clean energy but also empower local communities, create new opportunities for industry and businesses, and secure the future for our next generations.”
