Spanish utility Endesa SA has initiated a EUR 34.1 million project to rejuvenate the 24-year-old Aldeavieja wind farm in Avila province, central Spain, aiming to double its annual power production with significantly fewer turbines.
The current configuration of the Aldeavieja wind farm consists of 22 turbines with a combined capacity of 14.52 MW. The repowering project will replace these with four new 6-MW turbines, increasing the total capacity to 24 MW. As a result, the wind farm's annual production is expected to rise to 64.1 GWh from the current 32.5 GWh, Endesa stated.

Part of the repowered wind farm's output will be allocated to power purchase agreements (PPAs) with local small and medium-sized enterprises, according to the utility.
The project is being carried out by Endesa's renewables subsidiary, Enel Green Power Espana. The renewal of Aldeavieja has received a EUR 6.51 million grant from the EU's recovery and resilience facility, awarded by the Spanish government agency IDAE through the Circular Repowering incentives programme.
Enel Green Power Espana plans to begin testing the upgraded wind farm in October 2025, with full operations expected by the end of that month.
