Indian renewable energy company ReNew Energy Global Plc has inaugurated a 400-megawatt (MW) solar farm in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan.
The facility is part of a larger 600-MW solar project, which benefits from a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). The PPA stipulates a tariff of INR 2.18 (USD 0.026/EUR 0.024) per kilowatt-hour.
The full 600-MW project will cover 2,000 acres (809.4 hectares) across multiple villages in the Pokran and Bhaniyana tehsils, and is expected to generate approximately 1,331 million units of electricity annually.
The remaining 200 MW of the project is scheduled to commence power production by October.
ReNew Energy founder and CEO Sumant Sinha remarked, “I am proud that we were able to complete this project in a record time, enough to power 300,000 households. Presently, 4,000 MW of ReNew's gross [approximately] 10GW of operational capacity is situated in Rajasthan with investments of over Rs 21,000 crore, including a 4 GW solar module manufacturing facility in Jaipur. We are fully committed to Rajasthan when it comes to expanding our portfolio upwards from 10 GW in the next few years.”
