Argentina has increased its renewable energy capacity by 65.1 megawatts (MW) with the addition of several new projects, the Energy Secretariat announced. The new capacity comes from the connection of two solar farms, two biogas thermal power plants, and one wind farm.
During the April-June period, the 49.5-MW La Elbita Stage 1 wind farm in Buenos Aires province began operations. Additionally, the Victorica and Helios Santa Rosa II solar farms in La Pampa and Mendoza contributed 7.2 MW and 5.2 MW, respectively.
The remaining capacity includes the 2-MW San Luis biogas thermal power plant in San Luis province and the 1.2-MW Bell Ville biogas thermal power plant in Cordoba.
As of the end of June, Argentina has 220 operational renewable energy plants with a total capacity of 5,961 MW, capable of supplying electricity to more than 6 million households.
Renewable sources, including wind, solar, bioenergy, and small hydro (below 50 MW), accounted for 18.6% of electricity demand in April, 12.4% in May, and 14.3% in June.
When including hydro plants with capacities above 50 MW, renewable energy represented 41.45% of electricity demand in April, 39.49% in May, and 34.3% in June.
