French power utility Engie SA has initiated construction of the 75-megawatt Grootspruit solar farm in South Africa's Free State province, the company announced on Monday.
Aurex Constructors and Ablon Construction have been selected as the preferred contractors for the project. Grootspruit is part of a two-project initiative with South African independent power producer Pele Green Energy.
The other project, Graspan, is also a 75-megawatt solar farm located in the Northern Cape.
Both projects are included in Bid Window Five of South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).
Engie anticipates that both Grootspruit and Graspan will be commissioned by the end of 2025.
