Rovco to Conduct Site Characterisation for Green Volt Offshore Wind Project

Rovco is set to undertake site characterisation operations for the 560MW Green Volt floating offshore wind project, located 80 km east of Peterhead, Scotland. Scheduled for full operation in 2029, Green Volt will become one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind farms, with up to 35 turbines. Developed by Flotation Energy and Vargronn, the project aims to generate enough power to electrify several oil and gas platforms in the Outer Moray Firth area. Green Volt is expected to boost the local supply chain, contributing to job retention and skill development in Scotland's floating offshore wind sector. Rovco’s role will include geophysical surveys in the wind farm array area, offshore and nearshore export cable corridors, shallow Piezocone Penetration Test (PCPT), and vibrocoring. Rovco’s DP2 survey vessel, Glomar Supporter, will commence operations from Aberdeen in July 2024. These geophysical surveys will be crucial for anchor design for the floating turbines, facilitating the development of Green Volt into one of the largest offshore floating wind farms globally.
