US renewables developer Clearway Energy Group announced on Tuesday that it has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Washington state utility Puget Sound Energy (PSE) for its 315-MW Haymaker wind project in Montana.
The agreement, Clearway's first project in the western US state, will see PSE procure the wind farm's output and supply it to its customers for 25 years.
“This agreement with Clearway helps us meet some of the most ambitious laws in the nation while delivering on our customer's expectations for energy that is clean as well as safe, reliable and affordable,” said Ron Roberts, PSE's senior vice president of Energy Resources.
Located in Wheatland and Meagher counties, the Haymaker wind farm is expected to generate enough power to cover the consumption of 116,000 homes annually. Construction is planned to begin in 2026, with commercial operations anticipated to start by 2028.
At the end of 2023, PSE announced plans to build a 248-MW wind farm in Montana's Stillwater County, which is expected to supply electricity to around 83,000 homes annually.
