Afreenergy Solar Acquires Solar Assets in Senegal from GreenYellow

Afreenergy , a unit of -based independent power producer Afreenergy, has announced the of a solar asset portfolio in from French solar company GreenYellow. The deal involves the purchase of GreenYellow's 100% interest in three operational power systems, totaling 2.6 megawatt-peak (MWp).

The solar installations are designed to serve the power needs of commercial and industrial (C&I) customers through self-consumption. Christian Cachat, CEO of Afreenergy Solar, emphasized the significance of the acquisition, stating, “This acquisition strengthens our presence in Senegal, a strategic country with significant momentum towards renewable energy, particularly solar. It's a trend that we want to support through partnerships with local players, to give as many people as possible access to clean, affordable energy.”

The addition of these assets enhances Afreenergy Solar's existing portfolio, which includes over 320 MW of solar, storage, and hydro projects across 12 African countries. The company also plans to seek acquisition opportunities for late-stage projects in West Africa, a region it considers traditionally underserved.

The sale of these assets is part of GreenYellow's broader strategy to refocus its operations geographically towards Europe, as noted by Robinson Ralazraki, general manager of GreenYellow Africa.
